From the beginning of the different party primaries, there have been several reports of misunderstanding leading to fights in/between some political parties in Bayelsa State. As a result of this, the outcome the December 5th election is in doubt as it offers a straight choice between war and peace.

#VoteInPeaceBayelsa Campaign is designed to enlighten the youths against electoral violence on this forthcoming December 5th general gubernatorial election. We are at this point calling on all peace loving people, not just Bayelsans alone but every Nigerian home and abroad to join this campaign to bring peace amongst the youth. For Nigeria to enjoy peace as a whole there has to be peace in the hearts of her youths. Old men cannot fight or cause violence except they device the heart of a youth into doing it.

We therefore call on religious bodies, church leaders, media houses, mosques, pastors, chiefs and elders who have the key role to play in the forthcoming election; to preach peace in their respective gatherings, communities and places of worship. For almost 80% of voters will be privileged to listen/hear their teaching over the radio, television and churches.

Religious leaders in the state should not cease praying for peace to reign. And also to pray for good leaders to win in this election (prayer can change things); for the bible said, when the righteous rules the people rejoice, but when the wicked is in power, you dont need to be told.

The online campaign starts like fun but has a great impact in building peace in the hearts of men mostly the youths.

BAYELSA VOTE IN PEACE CARNIVAL

On Saturday December 5, 2015, Bayelsans will decide at the polls who will drive the affairs of the state for another 4 years, it is very important to Bayelsans, Nigeria and the globe that this process stays fair and free of electoral violence. This is also necessary to ensure that our nascent democracy is nurtured to effectively yield its dividends to the masses. Past elections in the state have been characterized with violence against electoral officers, women and electorates, hence the campaigns for a peaceful election through our proposed event “BAYELSA VOTE IN PEACE CARNIVAL”. The Bayelsa VIP Carnival has been designed to mobilize students, youths, entertainers, businessmen and women, religious organization to take over the streets of Bayelsa state with the message of peace.  We will walk and dance with placards, music, T-shirts, banners, and other visibility items calling for a peaceful election in one voice.

OBJECTIVES

• To preach the message of peace before, on and after the December 5 governorship polls in Bayelsa State.
• To reach out to youths who are prone to be used as tools to cause violence during elections.
• To create a platform for governorship candidates to pledge a peaceful conduct during the gubernatorial elections.
• To reach out to the entire Niger Delta, Nigeria and the world that Bayelsa is set for a credible, fair and violence-free elections.
